New beginings…

So here we are, Happy New Year everyone!! With the New year comes new hope, resolution, and a fresh, positive attitude. But isn’t it always that way? Don’t we always start the year off in such a fashion?  We make these grand proclomations, we declare we are going to lose weight, eat better, get more sleep, stop using the “F word”, whatever it is we choose to deny ourselves, yet only about 12% of the people who make resolutions will end up keeping them…… But maybe, just maybe, this year can be different. During a conversation on “Martha Martha“, Caedmon said; “I can not like things I do and still like who I am”, and I think that just might be the key to keeping new Years resolutions. Dont make your resolution something  that you should already be doing anyway! Vow to live your life the way you know you should anyway, and then pick one extra thing! I think the key is to analyze what you are doing right, and what you know you are doing wrong (swearing, lying, whatever), and then look at the bad and ask yourself; Is this how I want people to remember me? Is that what I want to be known for?

With the birth of Christ comes the hope of new life, glory and great joy. There is also the promise of dark days too, but they are superseded by the light and love of Christ as he gives himself up for all of us. Maybe we need to keep these positives in mind as we make our resolutions, and look towards the Lord for the strength to become the people we all wish we could be.

“God, thank you for a new year. May everyone in our family be willing to begin anew with a clean slate. We know that you are always ready to forgive us. Help us to be willing to forgive ourselves and to forgive one another.

As we begin a new year, remind us of our truest values and our deepest desires. Help us to live in the goodness that comes from doing what you want us to do. Help us to put aside anxiety about the future and the past, so that we might live in peace with you now, one day at a time.”
